Rainbo-Reef

The PADI AmbassaDiver program has come to Key Largo, choosing Jack Fishman as the newest AmbassaDiver. Together with Rainbow Reef Dive Center of Key Largo, Jack plans to keep the momentum going encouraging divers and the local community to care for our oceans and reef systems. Living up to his name, Fishman, has a B.S. in Tourism Management and Marine Conservation, has completed an internship with Reef Environmental Education Foundation, and studied tropical marine biology in School For Field Studies, Turks Caicos and at CIEE Bonaire.

As a PADI IDC Staff Instructor, dive guide, and as Rainbow Reef’s Marine Conservation Coordinator, Jack has helped facilitate PADI conservation programs and specialties including Project AWAREFish ID, AWARE Dive Against Debris, and the successful inception of Project AWARE’s Adopt A Site program which involve Rainbow’s large, active, and conservation-minded staff. They have adopted more than 25 sites already and created the world’s largest Adopt A Site program. Project AWARE has recognized our success and featured Rainbow Reef’s media, videos and stories on many occasions. Rainbow Reef was recently featured as a Project AWARE Dive Against Debris Hero.

As part of the third largest barrier reef in the world, all of the Florida Keys are within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary which protects 2,900 square nautical miles of waters surrounding the Florida Keys.  Key Largo, the northernmost key, is home to many beautiful reefs, which we must protect. Jack continues with Rainbow Reef, a Blue Star operation, continue to educate and foster community and public involvement.  Through Fish ID Surveys in cooperation with the Reef Environmental Education Foundation, to removing marine debris from our reefs, and rebuilding our reefs by planting coral with the Coral Restoration Foundation, we see these programs as important opportunities to participate in citizen science. Divers have a passion for our oceans and we want to encourage these positive interactions with our ocean ecosystem. By becoming 100% AWARE we can consistently give back to the marine conservation community and introduce our divers to methods and programs that can make their dives more meaningful and help our marine environment. Jack’s participation in the PADI AmbassaDiver program will help expand what we are able to do for our communities – both above and below the water.
